A die is struck on a copper or iron sheet. A higher resolution is achieved with copper as it is a more malleable metal. The lapel pin is then cut and plated in gold, silver, copper or black nickel. No coloring is used. The raised surfaces are then highly polished while the recessed surfaces maintain a matte finish to give a 3 dimensional effect.
